Success Stories

Stories from women I’ve worked with.

I was so happy for Moira to have coached me at a time of a mid-life crisis, when my kids were fleeing the nest and I felt that I’d lost connection to myself. In her gentle manner, she asked just the right questions, helping me through a difficult phase so that I found confidence in myself and the future again. I can warmly recommend Moira’s coaching for any transition situation.

Five years ago, when my two children were in their early teens, I was struggling with the parent I was and the parent I wasn’t; the person I was and the person I wasn’t. I had left a job that I didn’t feel any passion for and was seeking to find a place… for me. I longed to live with passion, make meaningful connections and give back. There were so many things I wanted to do in my life and knew that I could — but I struggled to find a way to dig my heels and make it happen. I didn’t know where or how to start.

Then I was introduced to Moira. And we began working together. Over Skype… 3500 miles apart.

Moira started by helping me look at me, where I was, who I was, and to love and embrace what I saw… the ugliness, the beauty, and everything in between. She helped me confront the many fears that were holding me back and believe that one step at a time I could find a path for me. And I have.

Just over 2 years ago I started a social enterprise that offers companies socially responsible gifts items for clients and employees. The business is called “Peace by Piece International”. The products we offer companies come from highly-skilled artisans around the globe – living in places like Rwanda, Haiti, Guatemala and the United States – where many have endured unthinkable loss and trauma. But all the artisans share the desire to be known for their creative capabilities and not for their past.

It’s been a huge joy for me to fulfill this dream and passion… working with vulnerable artistic communities and creating bridges to the corporate communities that are increasingly looking to give back to society.

I still struggle and question my capabilities. But working with Moira helped me to develop the tools to get back on track and to know what I needed to do to stay strong and to live on purpose.

I’ve just turned 60 and I’m happier and more alive and fulfilled than I have ever been in my life. This is due in large part to what Moira helped me see — and how she helped me believe in the power of me.

Working with Moira genuinely changed my life!  I approached Moira as I was turning 40 at a point when I felt I was about to become a ‘failure’; I felt lost about how to turn that feeling around and unclear in my direction.

Moira and I did a lot of work on my understanding my previous work choices, my strengths and weakness and she helped me make a strategic plan for the coming year.  That sounds far more ‘dry’ than the process was, which was a joyful one filled with much laughter and many personal revelations. I really loved the sessions and alongside developing an understanding of where I wanted to go professionally, I also really changed personally and have not looked back!

At the end of the process I had my plan, and I stuck to it. And a year or two after that I moved to the work organisation I had always had in my sights and could not be happier. I know that would to have happened without the work I did with Moira. I cannot recommend her highly enough and I have recommended her to friends who I also know have had similar very positive experiences.

Before I started working with Moira I was feeling as near to the bottom as I could go. I was highly emotional and had very low self-esteem. Looking back, I think I was quite depressed and a bit traumatised. I couldn’t see anything clearly. I didn’t know how I could get out of the rut of feeling so low. I needed someone to empower me to make me feel stronger and to find the power that I knew was in there. To see my potential and help me to find my way forward.

From the beginning of my work with Moira, it was lovely to have the support and the ability to say what was going on without any judgment and to be able to be vulnerable. The exercises that we did during our sessions always seemed to clear whatever negativity I had around whatever we were dealing with. I would completely change the way that I felt. I often started sessions feeling quite down and not in a very good place. By the end, I always felt empowered. It always made me feel stronger.

Following our work my situation has changed radically. I came away from our work with lots of tools to use to help me to stay strong and to stay positive. I gained the confidence that I needed to move forward in a very challenging situation. I’m a very different person. I see myself in a very different way and I treat myself in a very different way. Now I value myself.

When I first started coaching I wrote down where I wanted to be in two years’ time and when I looked at it after two years that’s what I had!

I started coaching with Moira several years ago when I found myself in a difficult situation at my work as a manager of a good-sized team in an International Organization. What was happening was that my manager and one of my staff created an alliance thereby disempowering me as a manager.

Through those early sessions, firstly, I learned how to truly praise myself which was impossible to do up until then. Secondly, I learned how to cope with very difficult colleagues and understand myself better in the process and this gave me so much relief from extremely stressful situations. Lastly, I often brought in personal issues (with ageing children & parents) which were affecting me and Moira’s listening and feedback were tremendously helpful to move through them.

There were periods of time when I never spoke to Moira but I was so pleased to return to our coaching sessions from abroad in a new work situation. I had new challenges with difficult colleagues, and again Moira helped me to reflect on the motivating impulses of these colleagues to unpack and lighten my reaction. Over the years, she has been a tough reviewer of motivation letters for new employers, rigorous interviewer in preparation for a job interview and much more. After a dry run interview for a specific job, I remember how I smashed it! I was so well-prepared for the interview and was subsequently put on the roster for that position.

Today, I’m very glad to know that she is available to coach me as I navigate life changes at the tail end of my career.
